Established in January 2004, the Marine Stewardship Area set a course for the Marine Resources Committee to identify the key action steps toward a healthier and more sustainable island marine ecosystem for the natural resources and the benefit of the people who live, work and recreate there. To accomplish this, the MRC brought in partners from the Northwest Straits Initiative, The Nature Conservancy and SeaDoc Society to develop a planning process that would identify key strategic actions.
