Derelict Crab Pot Mortality
The Commission recently had a presentation by Jeff June on a crab pot mortality study supported by the Stillaguamish Tribe and Northwest Straits Foundation. New regulations allow enforcement agents to ticket crabbers for transporting illegal pots on marine waters. Click here for more information on how to prevent the loss of your crab pots.

Member Spotlight: Sarah Haynes, Island MRC
It’s clear within the first few minutes of meeting Island MRC member Sarah Haynes that she is not from around here. But that hasn’t prevented her from considering marine waters a part of the ecosystem she lives in; in her mind, the connections are clear and inseparable. The small horse farm she keeps is far from Puget Sound, but she has gone to great lengths to be sure it doesn’t impact that system. Read more...
